Data Linkage: Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS)
MBS data linked to Women’s Health Australia survey data are available for the 1921-26, 1946-51, 1973-78, and 1989-95 cohorts. The MBS data were extracted by matching a list of Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) provided with the MBS claims data. These data do not contain Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) items, however there are separate linked DVA datasets for the 1921-26 and 1946-51 cohorts. The linked MBS data range from 22 January 1985 to 31 December 2015 for the three older cohorts and from 01 January 2009 to 31 December 2015 for the 1989-95 cohort.
The data have the MBS records for those Women’s Health Australia survey participants who did not opt out of linkage. The number of women who opted out from each cohort were:
- 726 women from the 1921-26 cohort
- 1007 from the 1946-51 cohort
- 789 from the 1973-78 cohort
- 17 from the 1989-95 cohort
Note that the numbers were slightly different for the DVA linkage.
MBS information for women who opted out will not be on the linked dataset, however these women will be present on the Women’s Health Australia survey datasets.
Additional MBS documents will be made available to investigators on delivery of data.
